Tragic Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The total count of victims from the freight aircraft which caught fire and went down has now climbed to 13, according to recent statements.

Official's Announcement

While en route to the Teamsters’ vigil, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft incident,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My prayers is with the relatives, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this recently occurred calamity. We will endure this as one.”

Deceased Identified

An announcement from the company identified the flight crew on board the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies are extended to each UPSer who has been touched and everyone in our community community – assisting you and ensuring you get the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the firm’s message read.

Inquiry Updates

Federal investigators revealed that the freight aircraft’s wing burst into flames and an motor detached soon after liftoff from the aviation hub, leading to the plane to fall and explode into a inferno.

The NTSB has said it is probing the plane’s upkeep logs, that was in Texas for maintenance several weeks ahead of the incident.

Aviation information showed the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from early September to last week.

“We are aware that this plane was located in the facility,” said an investigator on the following day, without a specific date range. “We will examine all elements of repairs that was done, including the repair time, all the way to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Critical Evidence

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the motor was found on the runway.

The devices – known as data containers – were designed to survive accident forces and intense fire from blazes, and they seemed to be in one piece when discovered among the crash debris. Officials plan on reviewing information from the devices.

Aircraft’s final recorded information indicated an height of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 mph ahead of the crash.

Repair Background

According to FAA files from 18 September, a crack on a component in the fuel container demanded repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it provides airframe maintenance for the carrier’s aircraft and manages a repair facility in Texas, chose not to speak, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.

Services Resume

In the meantime, UPS Worldport activities continued last night with its express or nighttime operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer said. All three runways at the aviation hub were likewise back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the firm’s largest. The facility hires more than 20,000 individuals in the area, manages three hundred trips per day and organizes in excess of 400,000 parcels per hour.

Public Support

A candlelight vigil was held on the night of 6 November by the regional Teamsters Union, which represents workers at the airfield, the organization’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports employees, commenced the vigil with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate time of the crash before.

“This incident was so unexpected, so surprising,” the official spoke to the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
